Topic: "The World and Works of Jane Austen"
Presenter: Lucy Morrison - Salisbury University English Department
Enter the world of Jane Austen. Come and discuss whether Austen condemns, pities, or liberates Willoughby from the harsh marriage market of her fictional universe. Figure out just why Darcy is right for Elizabeth Bennet and how and why Anne Elliot waited - and whether or not he was worth it. Explore Jane Austen's England, unraveling the laws of inheritance and figuring out the calling card (among other) rituals. The discussion will include popular screen portrayals of Austen's world, and may involve some dancing as well.
This is the third of three seminars to be presented at Salisbury University during the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 academic year. These seminars are open to everyone.
Registration for each seminar is $30. |
