Dr. William Jason Owen '92

Dr. William Jason, 46, of Richmond, Va., died peacefully January 28, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. Dr. Owen was a tenured Professor of Statistics at the University of Richmond. He completed his undergraduate work at Salisbury University, Salisbury, Md. and his Masters and PhD at the University of South Carolina. Prior to his tenure at the University of Richmond, he taught at the University of New Hampshire. His love of teaching earned him the respect of his students and colleagues and extended into the business community as he co-founded a statistical consulting company. Playing guitar and collecting antique radios were a favorite pastime as were attending concerts, travel and spending time with family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Carla; two sons, Stephen and Christopher; and a daughter, Lindsey; his parents, Bill and Elva Owen of Fayetteville, N.C.; his brother, John and wife, Stacy of Winston, Salem, N.C.; his sister, Catherine Cuomo and husband, Mike of Charlotte, N.C.; his sister, Lesley Disbrow and husband, Josh of Denver, Colo.; and his sister, Laura Bravo and husband, Santiago of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. A service for the celebration of Dr. Owen's life will be held at Cambridge Baptist Church, 12025 Gayton Rd., Richmond, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2015.
